Championship
Bohemians 3 South Liverpool 3
In the league season's traditional curtain-raiser, the reigning champions began the defence of their title at the Cup-winners and honours ended even following a pulsating contest.
Bohemians raced out the traps and established an early two-goal lead which they held until half-time, with South Liverpool steadying the ship but unable to make inroads into their deficit. After the resumption, South began to show the form and class that had earned them their first Championship and fought back to achieve parity before Bohs again took the lead, much against the run of play, on 82 minutes. As the match entered its final moments, South Liverpool's incessant pressure bore fruit and brought a last-gasp equaliser to avert defeat, the final result providing, under the circumstances, a hard-earned point for both teams.
