European Super Cup 2018

(Milan)

Karpaty Lvov       (1) 4
Atlético Madrid (0) 1

The inaugural 'Super Cup', contested between the holders of the European Champions' and Cup-Winners' Cups, as won at the end of the previous season, saw the former, Karpaty Lvov, overcome Atlético Madrid in a feast of attacking football, two goals for the Ukrainians in the last ten minutes burnishing the final scoreline of what had been a keenly- and closely-fought encounter between two of the continent's obviously finest club teams, whetting the appetite nicely for the coming season's competitions, which will commence early in 2019.
Both clubs will feature in this season's Champions' Cup, qualifying as domestic champions and also in Karpaty's case as holders, and will be expected to progress to the latter stages if the draw, unseeded and open after the First Round, keeps them apart.
