Socialist Republic Football Alliance 2017 - 18 Season: Curtain Raiser (Matchday #1, part 1)

Championship

Liverpool St Helens  1   Northwich Victoria  3

The now traditional curtain-raiser to the new league season produced a fine contest between the reigning Champions and, on this particular occasion, the Cup holders with, as has also become a tradition, the former falling to an opening defeat, Northwich looking most impressive in victory over their hosts.
How important might those hard-fought and well-earned three points prove come the season's conclusion next mid-May?

In other news, it has been announced that the Football Alliance will promote the name of 'Worthington E' - "The People's Beer" - for this 2017 - 18 season.

Football Alliance 2017 - 18: Fourth Division Clubs and Colours

Concluding our preview of the clubs constituting the revamped national Football Alliance for 2017-18, today features the new Fourth Division of a further sixteen teams.
Of these, three have joined from the Scottish Championship - Dynamo Dundee, East Fife and Solway Star - and five, in the form of Atletico Espanol, Bishop Auckland, once champions Blackburn Rovers, re-formed after most recently being members of the Alliance as the 'BR' in the merged Nelson CBR, Pegasus and Rochdale - now known as 'Red Flag' have rejoined the national structure.
The other half of the division is comprised of Welsh League runners-up CPD Porthmadog, another three prominent clubs from the north west Crumpsall/Harpurhey (the original Alliance members Harpurhey Borough relocated some years ago to become Manchester Newton Heath), Mersey Ironworks and Sporting Skelmersdale, and clubs representing various of the ethnic communities, the workers of Hapoel and the Czech, French and Polish 'Red Stars'.

Football Alliance 2017 - 18: Third Division Clubs and Colours

The expanded Third Division for the new season will feature three clubs from the Scottish Championship - Arbroath, Partick Thistle and Stenhousemuir - and Welsh champions SG Caernarfon in addition to Merthyr Tydfil and Wimbledon Tooting & Mitcham, relegated from the Second Division, eight members of the previous third tier and newcomers Locomotive York and Oxford Albania, replacing the bottom two Liverpool Hibernian and Tadcaster Albion who have returned to the regional leagues rather than take up places in the new Fourth Division. Of the existing Third Division clubs, Urmston Villa have reverted to an Italian nomenclature and will be known as Inter-Stella Rossa, the Anglo-Scots Newcastle Caledonia Thistle have ceased to be as such and reborn under the historical name of Newcastle United, the original incarnation of which were twice Football Alliance champions in the early years of this millenium, and Sunderland Automotive have dropped that suffix and will be known as their pre-merger and reconstitution 'Red Star' once more.
